College Planning

College Information Day  |  Recently Awarded Scholarships

As an integral part of the college planning process, all seniors at the Long Island High School for the Arts participate in a College Communications course. Students are assisted through the college application process. As artists, applications have a special slant and each application must reflect the student's talent and dedication.

Seniors are required to take a course in Audition or, in the case of Visual Arts and Creative Writing, a Portfolio class. It is in these classes that seniors prepare their audition and portfolio materials.

In the College Communications class, students prepare their college essays, resumes and, where appropriate, a repertoire list. Each spring, a College Information Night is scheduled for parents of juniors. In the early autumn, a College Information Night for parents of seniors is held.

In October, the Long Island High School for the Arts hosts a College Information Day, which is attended by representatives from many of the nation's finest colleges, universities, and conservatories. Students and their parents are invited to visit and speak with the representatives. An information session and question/answer period is followed by student performances in the theatre and an exhibit of student artwork in our gallery.
