College Night for Juniors
On Tuesday evening, March 9th at 7:00 PM parents of Juniors are invited to LIHSA to begin learning about the college prepartion process. For LIHSA students who audition and prepare writing and art portfolios, short films, and music videos, the process can be complex. LIHSA's College Communications teacher, Michele Zimmerman will begin the evening in our main theatre with a comprehensive seminar. Afterwards, parents will attend their student's department where the coordinators will address the specifics of the process in the students' specialized area. Please plan to join us for this valuable and informative evening.

Reach for the Stars at LIHSA's Open House
On Saturday, April 24th from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM visitors can stop by anytime. Prospective students can sketch from a live model, sit in on a jazz improv or dramatic happening, take a dance class, join our theatre 'techies' in creating special effects, watch an Interarts Student Performance in our main theatre and view the work of our visual arts students in the LIHSA Art Gallery. Visitors can tour our state of the art facility, chat with our staff of teachers and practicing professional artists, and meet with parents of current and former students. Learn more about our many program offerings from our half day and full day high school to our Summer Arts Academy and After School and Adult Education programs.

LIHSA After School Program Begins
The LIHSA After School Program is designed for students in grades 6th through 8th and offers young artists an opportunity to explore and develop their creative talents in an enriching and encouraging atmosphere with practicing professional artists. Classes are conducted for eight weeks February 9th, 23rd, March 2nd, 9th, 16th, 23rd, and April 13th, and 20th from 4:30 PM to 6:00 PM. LIHSA Hosts Annual Guidance Counselor Day
On Friday, March 5th LIHSA hosted its Annual Guidance Counselor Day from 8:15 AM-2:30 PM. Nassau and Suffolk County high school guidance counselors had the opportunity to tour our state of the art facility, meet our faculty of teachers and practicing professional artists and learn why our typical graduating class of one hundred students earn more than 7 million dollars in scholarships and grants each year. Counselors learned about our Digital Music and Media Laboratory where students can learn to do everything from film and video game scoring to orchestration and popular music production. In our Film department, counselors could view our student produced film that won the Best Student Film from the Long Island Film Festival. Our Technical Theatre department students demonstrated their expertise in professional lighting design, audio production, and stage management skills. Counselors met with students from their districts in a Q & A panel discussion group. Following a luncheon counselors had the opportunity to view the work of their Visual Arts department students in our main gallery and attend an Interarts Workshop performance in the LIHSA Theatre.
